Stephen Wahlberg Spreads Awareness on Ovarian CancerStephen and Judye Wahlberg are contributors and volunteers for the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Judye has been cancer free for one year and has recently taken training courses to be able to teach med students at the CU Medical Sciences Center about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Judye Wahlberg also attends a support group for women in cancer treatment and provides meals and in-home support for families with cancer. The Wahlberg family has been involved in cancer awareness and education for many years--Stephen’s grandmother, Eunice Wahlberg, was one of the early leaders in the Colorado Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mike Nimmo Volunteers as Inner-City High School SpeakerAttorney Mike Nimmo volunteers as a speaker at inner city high schools regarding the Colorado civil legal system. Dan Sloane Spreads Awareness on Brain InjuriesPartner Dan Sloane is the immediate past president of the Brain Injury Association of Colorado. He has served on the Board of Directors for a number of years. He is very actively involved with this organization. Additionally, Dan Sloane volunteers at the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center to work with people with brain injuries. This organization focuses on running a summer camp for people with disabilities and also camps for at-risk youth from around the country. Dan was an invited speaker to the brain injury support group at Spalding Rehabilitation Center in Denver in December. He was a speaker for the Kaiser Permanente brain injury group in Longmont, Colorado in February. He is scheduled to speak the Denver brain injury group in April 2007. The mission of this organization is to improve academics and life skills for at-risk kids through a tennis program. Tutors and coaches meet with children 4th through 8th grade twice a week to teach skills such as discipline, respect, honesty, courage and sportsmanship. Pennie Clor Volunteers as Special Advocate for Children Appointed by CourtAttorney Pennie Clor is a volunteer special advocate for children appointed by a court. She currently has been appointed by the Arapahoe County District Court to be the advocate voice for two children under the age of 5. |
